I've spent more than forty years making theatre and helping people discover how skills, craft and ideas come together to shape what they create and how they see the world.

As a writer, director, performer and teacher, I've worked with everyone from complete beginners to experienced professionals. My career has taken me into universities, drama schools, theatres and community settings, and I've worked with organisations including the National Theatre, Theatre Royal Stratford East, London Bubble, Graeae, Battersea Arts Centre and, most recently, Goldsmiths, University of London, where I was a Senior Tutor.

About Me

In 2024 I was honoured to receive the Music & Drama Education Awards Lifetime Achievement Award, recognising my contribution to theatre and arts education.

What matters most to me now, though, isn't the list of places I've worked. It's creating spaces where people feel challenged, supported and excited to learn. Whether I'm leading an evening class, facilitating a workshop, running projects with young people or mentoring an artist, my aim is always the same: to help people grow in confidence, deepen their craft and discover possibilities they didn't know were there. People often describe my teaching and coaching as engaging, inspiring and great fun, while offering a depth of professional insight that's rarely found outside specialist training.

Alongside teaching, I've continued to make theatre throughout my career. My solo show Wot? No Fish!! toured internationally, won the Brian Way Playwriting Award, and was named one of The Guardian's Top Ten Theatre Shows. Its success reinforced something I've always believed: the most memorable theatre is truthful, imaginative and deeply human.

Currently

A production I directed, Bubble Schmeisis, is part of this year's Edinburgh Fringe at Summerhall. I'm also developing Gutless Wonder, a new solo show exploring health, identity and resilience, writing a new play, Game 6, about World Chess Champion Bobby Fischer, mentoring professional artists as they develop new work, and launching Scene Change, a new evening class for adults in my local town of Stowmarket.

However you come across me, you'll find the same approach: high expectations and a love of bringing the depth of professional theatre practice into welcoming, accessible spaces where people of all backgrounds and experience can do ambitious, enjoyable work together.
